EXHIBITION - THE CAPRICES . (Exhibition room) With installations by the following artists:

cv8.org, HALL OF FAME (2006), ”This installation uses irony to reflect on the new market formula for creating stars, the new star system, one of the clearest examples of the hedonistic, neo-narcissistic trends of current society. Borne out of our throwaway society, the frightening speed at which people and objects become obsolete affects all social strata from politicians to intellectuals and artists to film and TV stars…”.

Pep Dardanyá, ESTEFANY (2001/02). ”We look at people and things from a position of power, and thus construct the individual whose image we think we are just capturing. But the possibility of inverting the process is the privilege of the artist. By so doing, we feel observed by that person, that peer in whom we have deposited all the alterities that pave the way for all types of discrimination: that she is an immigrant, a woman, a black woman, a sex worker …”.

Miriam Durango, LITANY (2001-2006). ”Interventionism and appropriations of unknown, random identities and events that have been filmed and lost in time, like the deepest ethers of the unconscious mind. The piece reflects on the way in which the modern individual
becomes ensnared or swamped by identifying with their cultural surroundings or with the values of the leisure industry, this phenomenon of the technology age which reduces the workings of the mind to mere trivia; and how doubt, irony and reason become impossible - symbols of high treason”.

Carlos Fadon, DOLORES (2003-2006). ”This work is the result of numerous incursions, particularly into the landscape and urban graphics of São Paulo, based on the observation and photographic recording of the presence of women in street posters. Dolores is in itself an audiovisual work constructed in hypermedia and, at the same time, formulation and reflection, taking into account the implied aesthetic and ideological dimensions”.

Joan Fontcuberta, GOOGLEGRAMAS (2005). ”The Internet spread the idea of an universal and democratic memory which is exhaustive and accesible to everyone. The Googlegramas Project examines just how far is the utopia may become a reality. Googlegramas uses
photo mosaics as well as the Google search engine. The image is generated via search options which are determined by specific keywords. The device uses various formulas (polisemia, homonyms, and superimposition of various languages…) and censorsship, filters an thematic hierarchies which the search engine surreptitiously impones.”.

I SEE MYSELF AS A DON QUIXOTE… Tribute to the artist Pedro Garhel
Pedro Garhel (1952-2005) was a Canary artist and a pioneer in multimedia, virtual and performing arts in Spain. As a co-founder and director of ”P”, he participated actively in the catalyzing emerging art in the 1980s in Madrid. At the end of the 1990s he moved to Tenerife, where he continued his activity, leaving us with an abundance of photographic, vidoegraphic and sound file material, as well as his projects, of profound artistic and documentary significance.
